Eighty International Galleries will come together in Toronto for the 5th Annual Toronto International Art Fair (TIAF) beginning September 30 and continuing through October 4! There are a multitude of categories to tempt the art fan's taste buds such as Solo Spaces, Berlin Construction and more.

Solo Spaces

A new feature of TIAF this year is the category, Solo Spaces. As the name implies, individual booths are dedicated to project work by featured artists including David Hoffos, Scott McFarland and the artist team Daniel Borins and Jennifer Marman with Presence Meter.

Borins and Marman favor the genres of sculpture, installation and electronic art. Their art work is defined by the sheer scale of representation coupled with an attention to detail. This will be their first solo show at the Toronto International Art Gallery under the representation of Pari Nadimi.

Marcia Rafelman Fine Arts will participate in TIAF 2004. The Gallery specializes in contemporary and vintage photography. Among their artists will be Ray Charles White with Resonate.

Ray Charles has a fascinating resume. Born in Canada, he relocated to Manhattan and studied with Ansel Adams. He counts among his mentors David Hockney. The artist worked with Andy Warhol's Interview magazine, developing a large body of portrait work including Roy Lichtenstein, William Burroughs, Dennis Hopper and Allen Ginsburg.

The artist began photographing water surfaces in 1994. He explains, "As a young boy, I came very close to drowning in a river. I was terrified of the water for many years afterward. Now I am intrigued by the many personalities of water and the emotions it can incite."

Some of the other participating galleries are Flowers of London/New York, Havana Club of Havana, Stop arte contemporanea-design of Rome, Arte Giani of Frankfurt along with many Canadian galleries such as Marcia Rafelman Fine Arts of Toronto, Equinox Gallery of Vancouver and Studio 21 Fine Art of Halifax.

TIAF includes lectures, presentations and lots of interesting activities! Don't miss one of the gems of the Toronto Art Scene!
