Pittsburgh will be hot and happening on September 16. That's the date for a Live Glass auction to benefit the Pittsburgh Glass Center.

Where there is glass-making there will be fire!

Among those who will attend are Honorary Chair Dante Marioni and the event co-chairs Wallis and Marshall Katz. One of the highlights, besides the auction, will be the chance to learn about about the traditional Venetian glass technique called Murrine. It is a glass mosaic cane made by fusing together layers of colored glass. One of the masters of the Murrine, Stephen Rolfe Powell, will be on hand to demonstrate large scale glass blowing techniques.

Stephen Rolfe Powell said, "the Pittsburgh Glass Center is now one of the most important glass facilities in the eastern United States. I hope that the people of Pittsburgh realize what a treasure they have and how important it is to support the Center’s vision for the future. The timing for this year’s Meltdown is critical, as the Pittsburgh Glass Center prepares to host the Glass Art Society conference next year. I am flattered to be the featured artist for this years Meltdown and am honored to work with this years honorary host Dante Marioni.
